The Laboratoire Lagrange invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in plasma physics, to work in the group "Turbulence fluide et plasma", under the supervision of T. Passot and E. Tassi. The appointment is for one year, possibly renewable for 6 additional months depending on fund availability.
The successful applicant is expected to carry out original research in the area of theory and numerical simulations of fluid/gyrofluid models in the context of turbulence and reconnection in space plasmas. Special attention will be paid to the influence of magnetic reconnection and intermittency associated with coherent structures on the sub-ion kinetic Alfvén wave turbulence, using in particular a recently developed two-field gyrofluid model. A 3D fully parallelized spectral code will be provided, in which it will be easy to implement the model equations. In parallel, the investigation of MHD models for turbulence in relativistic regimes could be carried out.
Applicants should have a PhD in plasma physics, astrophysics or related discipline, obtained within the last six months. Knowledge of English and/or French is essential. The net salary, fixed by the CNRS standards, is about 2000 before income taxes.
The successful applicant will have access to the SIGGAM cluster, hosted at the Nice Observatory and to the French supercomputers of GENCI.
The closing date for applications is March 30th, 2018.
The fellowship includes health insurance and retirement plan.
